Economics of Scottish Independence: A cost benefit analysis on the restructuring of key public service companies.

Project Objectives:
The project uses cost-benefit analysis to analyze the economic implications of an independent Scotland on the restructuring of key public service companies such as British Gas, BT and Royal Mail and how this affects the delivery of services in the devolved Scottish economy. The project involved identifying firms that need decoupling across three essential sectors in the event of independence: energy (electricity, gas, etc), telecoms, and postal services as well as the different restructuring options/outcomes available for the identified firms.
Participants:
The project participants comprised of seasoned economists and consultants.

- Fiscal and financial considerations for the Scottish Government
- Market/competitive considerations, including demand and supply of services, consumer economics, brand considerations, procurement considerations.
- Labour and Employment relations
- Structural Considerations in terms of private vs. public ownership, administrative and political considerations.
